How’d we get started in timeshare travel?

We bought our 1st 3BR lockout timeshare in Branson in ‘97, and have added 2 more 3BR units in Branson, as well as a 1BR in DelRay, Florida, and a beautiful 2BR unit in Mijas, Spain. The last two in Branson were specifically purchased as a long-term legacy for our children and grandchildren. They are still learning just how well, and affordable, one can travel by way of timeshare.

We have taken dozens of special timeshare excursions since ‘97, We have made nearly as many timeshare vacations available to friends and relatives by way of bonus vacations, vacation escapes, outright gifts, etc., (including a month in Portugal for a 91 yr old father of a friend who wanted to show this country to his new 87 yr old girlfriend).

We began exploring Europe in 2000. Since then we have touched foot in some 17 countries, most often for 1-3 timeshare weeks at a time. It would be safe to say that none of this would have ever been achieved, by us anyway, without the benefit of our timeshare banking & trading capabilities.

Since we are generally gone from 1-4 weeks at a time, we then fly or drive to our first timeshare location. We pre-plan only about half our time, and leave the balance for recommendations from the locals. Oh! It’s a good idea to work in the occasional R&R day. We drive thousands of kilometers but will often take a train into the larger centrums, or join a day-long bus excursion into larger cities to avoid heavy, often crazy, traffic.

Timeshare front desk personnel are nearly always invaluable in obtaining local clues, scheduling excursions, providing basic local maps, resources, etc.

Would I recommend our form of travel to other timeshare owners? ABSOLUTELY! That is why I drew on a home equity line of credit to purchase additional timeshares for children and grandchildren to enjoy ... U.S. now, hopefully overseas later. Although, my oldest grandson just returned from a Week in Spain and another in the SE French Alps as his reward for putting himself thru college. Using timeshares, planning in advance, buying groceries, learning public transportation, making shoulder season reservations, and limiting your weight can cut your travel costs tremendously. Be sure to leave enough room and weight in luggage for souvenirs. You WILL buy them!
